nothing lasts but nothing is lost � terence mckenna first solo ep by zanias after her keluar and linea aspera projects. this evolution culminates in a mature but radical project. radicalism has never relied completely on the means to deliver it. it also requires a relationship to society, to culture, at any given time. a solid background must be included in the formula as well. once certain stability is reached, there is no other way more than taking additional risks in order to produce new work of interest. finding different mechanisms to corrupt the methodical linearity that underlies artistic production. corrupting means finding possibilities to create an accident, possibilities to contradict, to prove anomalies within the frame of reference of that new thought is actually possible.

finally, justus köhncke is unveiling new tracks! his first release since justus köhncke & the wonderful frequency band (kompakt, 2013) is both daring and serious. five songs in german, interpretations of material by howard carpendale, juliane werding and nik p. plus english-into-german translations of two pop classics (twist in my sobriety by tanita tikaram, captain of her heart by double). this is not an ironic joke about seemingly stupid music or schlager: köhncke embraces these five compositions and turns them into his own. they transmutate into his very own vision of nu-german comps-soul� while retaining justus unique sound.

in 2007, renowned french producer julien jabre tracked down the american gospel singer phyliss mckoy joubert on myspace. joubert was already a cult figure for house aficionados thanks to -stand on the word-, a song she wrote and performed with her -celestial choir- in 1982 that became a staple of the club scene in new york. it resurfaced as a mysterious bootleg in 2000. julien, who d fallen in love with the song, was eager to remix and officialy rerelease it. when he finally reached out to phyliss, she explained the multitrack tape had been lost. the only thing to do was rerecording it-along with 10 other tracks. today on french label elias, julien and the joubert singers are releasing -stand on the word- in its original and unique 1982 version (mistakenly named after larry levan) and 3 brand new mixes including a fresh dimitri from paris remix. that s how the good lord works!

that night, we answered a regular call, something about crazy loud noises coming out from a basement. while driving to the area all i could think when i first heard the bass stomping was: �man, whatever, this doesn t even sound like music to me.� and we were at least a 100 meter away from the source of the sound. when we got there, after knocking several times on the door, we decided we had more than enough probable causes to bust in. after a warning, we kicked the door open. what we saw inside was a five feet tall woman jumping around in that cacophony. we screamed and she ignored us, my colleague then panicked and shot her with his taser several times � she then simply pulled the probes out of her body shouting moments moments � and continued to jump around..

with the release of their last album �smoke� (2013) dapayk & padberg moved to a listening oriented direction, that also works perfectly off the dance floor. the new single �sink this ship� underlines their decision to follow this path in the future � maybe even with their upcoming album �harbour� later this year. on �sink this ship� eva padberg unfolds her matured voice, which shows more confidence than on previous records. dapayk skillfully puts her voice in a common scenery, where the straight beats are long over and where is space for extravagances and inventiveness. however, this is not a radical change turning away from the club sound. two of the most sought-after remixer artists at the moment, robot koch and bebetta, ensure the suitability for the dance floor. robot koch skillfully disassembles (for which he is known) the original. primarily he builds his version on the emotional base of eva�s vocal part and dapayk�s warm bass line. however, on the flip side, there is almost a contrasting change. the slight melancholy of the original track gives way for a typical bebetta techhouse beat, that flows through the club in a dreamy, yet simply irresistible manner.
